A New Lawn for a Putāruru Wedding Venue

Vista Environmental Landcare helped transform a retired horse arena in Putāruru into a landscaped outdoor space for a wedding venue.

The work involved rehabilitating the compacted sand-and-dirt arena surface, preparing a nutrient-rich seedbed and applying a custom hydroseeding treatment across the former arena and nearby guest walkways.

The project delivered a dense, green lawn intended to provide an attractive setting for venue visitors.

The site challenge

The former horse arena had a heavily compacted base that was unsuitable for establishing a fine, high-density lawn without significant preparation.

The team needed to loosen and improve the existing ground, incorporate organic soil amendments and achieve a smoothly graded surface suitable for event use and ongoing turf growth.

What Vista completed

Relieved compaction across the former sand-and-dirt horse arena.
Incorporated organic soil amendments to improve the growing medium.
Fine-graded the surface to prepare an even seedbed for high-density turf.
Prepared a custom hydroseeding slurry using fine-textured, wear-resistant grass seed, high-moisture wood-fibre mulch, starter fertiliser and organic tackifiers.
Applied the hydroseeding treatment across the former arena footprint and surrounding guest walkways.
Established a thick green lawn that enhances the wedding venue landscape and accommodates guest foot traffic.

The transformation provided a fresh, attractive green space that complements the property’s new purpose as a wedding venue.
