PROJECT OVERVIEW

Revegetating a Repaired Thames–Coromandel Embankment

Vista Environmental Landcare completed a specialist hydroseeding project following slip remediation works at a site in Thames–Coromandel.

With structural repairs complete, the newly engineered embankment remained exposed to rainfall erosion and sediment runoff. The project focused on establishing vegetation across the repaired slope while protecting the underlying soil.

A heavy-duty hydroseeding mixture containing grasses, native species, nurse crops, mulch and tackifiers was applied using long-reach hydraulic equipment.

THE PROJECT

The site challenge

Following structural remediation, the repaired embankment was left with exposed soil vulnerable to rainfall, surface erosion and sediment movement towards nearby waterways.

The steep, newly engineered slope required a treatment that could be applied without disturbing the completed repair works.

The challenge was to protect the soil surface during early plant establishment while encouraging vegetation to develop across the repaired slip face.

WORK COMPLETED

What Vista completed

  1. Assessed the exposed embankment following completion of structural slip remediation.
  2. Prepared a heavy-duty hydroseeding slurry containing deep-rooting grasses, native species and fast-establishing nurse crops.
  3. Incorporated specialist mulch and cross-linking tackifiers to help retain material on the slope.
  4. Used long-reach hydraulic equipment to apply the mixture across the repaired slip face.
  5. Established a protective mulch and seed layer designed to reduce surface erosion and sediment movement.
  6. Supported revegetation of the repaired embankment as the seed mixture germinated and developed.

The project brief reports initial germination within 5–7 days, with root establishment progressing over approximately 3–5 weeks. The slope subsequently developed vegetation that helped the repaired area blend into the surrounding landscape.

Why Choose Vista Landcare

We stand behind the quality of our work.

If areas of your hydroseeded site fail to establish as expected, we’ll return and repair bare patches free of charge. It’s part of our commitment to delivering results you can rely on.

Bespoke Hydroseeding Mixes

Every site is different. Whether you’re dealing with steep slopes, rough terrain, drought-prone areas, or erosion and washout risks, we tailor our hydroseeding mix to suit your site’s unique conditions and deliver the best possible establishment results.

Hydroseeding That Holds Firm

One of the biggest challenges with traditional seeding is seed wash-off caused by rainfall, irrigation, wind, and exposed conditions.

Our advanced hydroseeding techniques and carefully selected mulch blends help bind seed to the soil surface, reducing erosion and significantly improving seed retention. The result is better coverage, fewer bare patches, and stronger establishment across the entire site.

Steep Slopes & Difficult Terrain? No Problem

Hydroseeding is particularly effective on areas where conventional seeding methods struggle.

From embankments and steep batters to large construction sites and difficult-to-access terrain, our equipment allows us to apply hydroseeding efficiently and evenly across challenging landscapes.

Better Moisture Retention

One of the key advantages of hydroseeding is its ability to retain moisture around the seed during the critical establishment phase. Our specialised hydroseeding mix helps hold moisture where it’s needed most, supporting faster germination, stronger root development, and healthier, more resilient vegetation that can better withstand dry conditions.

• Locks in moisture around the seed
• Supports faster germination and stronger root development
• Improves drought resistance and long-term lawn health
• Reduces the risk of patchy growth during dry periods

Sustainability First

We’re committed to environmentally responsible landcare practices. Wherever possible, we source natural materials and sustainable products that support healthy vegetation growth while protecting the surrounding environment.

By combining effective erosion control, vegetation establishment, and environmentally conscious methods, we help create landscapes that are both resilient and sustainable.
